Since joining the Twins in 2023, Pablo López has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to uplifting others, especially the next generation. His unparalleled commitment to those in Twins Territory -- as well as his native Venezuelan community -- sets him apart as a leader deserving of this recognition. His excellence on the mound has made him a fan favorite and an All-Star, but even in seasons spent recovering from injuries, his real impact lies in his extraordinary character. Pablo truly exemplifies Roberto Clemente’s legacy as a fierce competitor on the diamond and a force for good in the community.
Pablo has demonstrated a genuine commitment to empowering youth, inspired by his lifelong enthusiasm for learning. The past four years, he has taken underserved students on a back-to-school shopping trip. Pablo has also leveraged his fluency in four languages by spending time with local high school classes -- and even video called into a Spanish immersion elementary school in rural Williston, N.D., located 620 miles from Target Field in the far reaches of Twins Territory -- to help students practice their foreign language conversational skills. Pablo has provided content for the Twins’ mental health awareness programming as well as content for a local nonprofit's curriculum teaching kids how to maintain a positive mindset and navigate setbacks. Every September, Pablo honors Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by visiting patients at two local children’s hospitals, appearing on Children’s Minnesota’s Star Studio TV network to play games and teach kids about pitching techniques. Through his 2024 “Pablo Day” initiative, Pablo leveraged his starts at Target Field to bring more than $22,000 of financial support and awareness to local nonprofits representing causes he cares about: youth development, education, animal adoption and children’s health.
Pablo is also a prominent supporter of the Twins Community Fund and its youth development programs. In addition to generous financial support, Pablo has inspired team captains as a speaker at the Twins High School Leadership Academy, distributed free gloves to kids in Minneapolis, coached young athletes at MTCF’s adaptive wheelchair softball clinic and has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Twins Girls Baseball national teams, welcoming them for an on-field experience and even logging on to watch them compete at the national tournament.
Through it all, Pablo has remained committed to his Venezuelan roots. In 2025, Pablo funded a school supply donation event benefiting students and teachers from the Twin Cities’ Venezuelan community (among others) as he worked to eliminate the supply gap educators are too often forced to cover through their personal bank accounts. This spring he joined the Twins Community Fund for a recess takeover at a Minneapolis elementary school, where he connected with Venezuelan kids and celebrated Día del Niño. Pablo has stepped up for his Venezuelan community during times of immeasurable need, too. Following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela in June of this year, Pablo jumped into action to support his home community. He immediately leveraged his social media platform to raise awareness and funds, and he also designated his charitable giving through the Twins Community Fund to three organizations leading relief efforts. During the Twins’ road trip to Cleveland in July, Pablo teamed up with Guardians players and coaches for a special pregame autograph signing event raising funds for Venezuelan earthquake relief efforts.
Pablo exemplifies the best of our game on and off the field with his extraordinary character, community impact and commitment to excellence. Thanks to his enthusiasm and generosity, Pablo López’s legacy is only continuing to grow, leaving our community and our game better for it.
