Injury: Left elbow inflammation

Expected return: May 20
Status: Felt soreness in sixth inning of May 3 start. Underwent MRI on May 4 that revealed no structural issues. Took a few days off throwing, worked off mound. Should be ready to start May 20 vs. the Orioles. (Last updated May 19) More >>

Injury: Back tightness
Expected return: Day to day
Status: Sidelined by unspecified issue in his back. Did not start against a left-handed pitcher May 18. Felt soreness May 19, but doing better. Unclear if he will need an IL stint. (Last updated May 19)

Injury: Hernia
IL date: May 17 (10-day IL, retroactive to May 16)
Expected return: Possibly July
Status: Was scratched from May 16 lineup and placed on the IL one day later. Manager Kevin Cash said he could require 6-8 weeks of recovery after surgery. (Last updated May 18)
RHP Cole Sulser
Injury: Low back strain
IL date: May 18 (15-day IL, retroactive to May 15)
Expected return: June
Status: Felt his back "lock up" after traveling from Toronto to Tampa Bay area on May 13-14. Tried to throw off the mound on May 17 but experienced continued discomfort. (Last updated May 18)
RHP Ryan Pepiot
Injury: Right hip inflammation
IL date: March 25 (retroactive to March 22; transferred to 60-day IL on April 14)
Expected return: Spring Training 2027
Status: Underwent season-ending surgery on May 13. Multiple exams revealed "normal" wear and tear on labrum and femoroacetabular impingement, which limited his leg's range of motion. 2B Gavin Lux
Injury: Left shoulder inflammation
IL date: March 24 (10-day IL, retroactive to March 23)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Initially sidelined by a right shoulder injury, had his rehab assignment stalled by a sprained ankle on April 11 then shut down May 12 due to inflammation in his left shoulder. Will return to the Tampa Bay area for more imaging. No timeline for return. (Last updated May 12)
RHP Alex Cook
Injury: Right intercostal strain
IL date: May 11 (Minor League 7-day IL)
Expected return: TBD
Status: A reliever for Triple-A Durham with a spot on the Rays' 40-man roster, Cook was placed on the Minor League IL on May 11. Had a 5.84 ERA with 15 strikeouts and six walks in 12 1/3 innings over 11 outings for Durham. (Last updated May 12)
RHP Michael Grove
Injury: Right labrum surgery recovery
IL date: April 14 (15-day IL; transferred to 60-day IL on April 20)
Expected return: Possibly June
Status: Signed to a Major League contract on April 14 and immediately placed on the IL. Scheduled to face hitters for the first time the weekend of May 8-10, with a rehab assignment to follow. (Last updated May 5)

Injury: Lumbar disk inflammation

Expected return: Before All-Star break

Injury: Sprained left ankle

Injury: Right shoulder impingement, subscapularis strain

Injury: Right flexor strain, elbow surgery
IL date: Feb. 10 (60-day IL)
Expected return: Midseason 2026
