John “Jake” Bloss...Spent three years at Lafayette College in Easton, PA, from 2020-22 where he graduated early with a double major in economics and mathematics...Was a First-Team All-Patriot League selection in 2022 after tailoring a 3.57 ERA over 11 starts...Attended Georgetown University in 2023 where he was named the Big East Pitcher of the Year, the second Georgetown hurler to win the award, joining Brian O’Hare in 1996...Made 14 appearances (13 starts) for the Hoyas, going 8-4 with a 2.58 ERA and 96 strikeouts over 76.2 innings of work...Selected by the Astros in the third round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft (99th overall), becoming the highest drafted player in Georgetown history.

2024

Started the 2024 campaign at High-A Asheville, where he made four starts posting a 2.08 ERA across 17.1 innings with eight walks, 25 strikeouts and a .186 opponent batting average...Was promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi in May where he made a total of eight starts, recording a 1.61 ERA (8 ER/44.2 IP) with a 7.9% walk rate, a 21.2% strikeout rate, a 43.1% ground ball rate, and a 0.72 WHIP...Was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 6-12th (6.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K)...Started the first no-hitter in Corpus Christi’s franchise history (alongside Cesar Gomez) on June 14 at SA (6.1 IP, 3BB, 6K)...Dealt to the Blue Jays alongside OF Joey Loperfido and INF Will Wagner in exchange for LHP Yusei Kikuchi on July 29...Spent the remainder of the season with Triple-A Buffalo, going 0-4 with a 6.91 ERA (21 ER/27.1 IP) over eight starts.
