Despite being drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 29th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft and playing two seasons in the organization (2019, 2021), Nunez qualified for amateur deregulation, and was eligible to play at the NCAA Division II level, enrolling at the University of Tampa (Fla.) and playing in parts of three seasons from 2022-24...Hit .266 (131-for-492) with 25 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs and 96 RBI in 136 games...Pitched for the first time in 2024, posting a 3.09 ERA (four ER/11.2 IP) with 20 strikeouts in 11 appearances...His 2024 Tampa Spartans went on to win the NCAA Division II National Championship, defeating the University of Central Missouri...Volunteered as a coach for his neighborhood little league baseball team.

Went 3-5 with nine saves, a 2.06 ERA (13 ER/56.2 IP), and 83 strikeouts in 49 relief appearances across four levels of the Mets and Orioles organizations...Made 32 relief appearances between Single-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton, going 2-1 with five saves, a 1.58 ERA (seven ER/40.0 IP), and 60 strikeouts over 32 relief appearances...On 7/31, acquired by the Orioles along with RHP Raimon Gomez and RHP Chandler Marsh in exchange for OF Cedric Mullins...At the time of the deal, ranked as the No. 14 Mets prospect by MLB Pipeline and No. 27 by Baseball America...Following the trade, went 1-4 with four saves, a 3.24 ERA (six ER/16.2 IP) and 23 strikeouts in 17 appearances between Double-A Chesapeake and Triple-A Norfolk.
