Coming out of Stillwater High School, he was rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Minnesota and 77th player nationally by Prep Baseball Report...He was also ranked the No. 10 left-handed pitcher nationally...His parents, Andy and Cindy, were both collegiate athletes. His father played soccer at Bethel University and his mother was a gymnast at Ball State University...Drew is one of four children. He has two sisters, Madeline and Molly, and one brother, Matt...Named a Gatorade Player of the Year finalist in 2018. That season he helped lead Stillwater to a Class AAAA State Championship...In the title game he threw a shutout, scattering three hits over seven innings with 15 strikeouts.

Acquired by the Giants alongside RHP Blade Tidwell and RHP José Buttó from the Mets in exchange for Tyler Rogers on July 30...Had his contract purchased from Triple-A Sacramento on Aug. 8 and made his big-league debut that night against the Nationals, starting in right field...At the time of his promotion, Gilbert was SF’s No. 13 prospect on MLB Pipeline and No. 8 on Baseball America...Slashed .190/.248/.350 with 12 runs, five doubles, a triple, three home runs and 13 RBI in 39 MLB games...Recorded his first big league hit on Aug. 11, hitting a single off San Diego’s Yu Darvish in the third inning…Stole his first base just two batters later...Hit his first Major League home run off Tampa Bay’s Mason Englert in the seventh inning at Oracle Park on Aug. 17...Was hitting .254 (81-for-319) with 48 runs, 18 doubles, four triples, 12 homers and 49 RBI across 87 Triple-A games...Was 7-for-14 with three runs, a double, two triples, two RBI and six walks in five games with Sacramento.

Played in 56 games between Syracuse (AAA), St. Lucie (A) and FCL Mets (R)...Batted a combined .205 with 10 homers, eight doubles and drove in 33 runs...Missed time due to a right hamstring injury.

Appeared in 116 games between Asheville (A+), Corpus Christi (AA) and Binghamton (AA) after he was acquired along with Ryan Gilbert in the Justin Verlander trade with Houston...Batted a combined .289/.381/.487 with 18 homers, 26 doubles, three triples, 59 RBI and 12 stolen bases... Was named a Mets MLB.com Organizational All-Star.

Played in 10 games between FCL Astros (R) and Fayetteville (A), where he slashed a combined .313/.405/.531/.936 with nine runs, a double, two home runs, six RBI and six steals.
