He and his wife, Maria, have four children: a son and three daughters. Eric and Maria were high school sweethearts, started dating when they were sophomores and were married at 19...Graduated from Divine Child (Mich.) High School where he was named "Mr. Baseball" by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association as a senior. The award is given to the state's top prep player and had previously been won by notable future Major Leaguers Derek Jeter (1992) and D.J. LeMahieu (2007). He was also the Gatorade Player of the Year for Michigan in 2011...Haase grew up a Tigers fan with his parents. His mom told the Detroit Free Press in an interview a few years ago "every season I would get the best tickets I could get right above the dugout. He'd want me to take him to watch batting practice and he would just stand there and be in awe of those guys."...His favorite Tigers growing up were C Iván "Pudge" Rodríguez and C/IF Brandon Inge. His mother, Lori, has worked as a labor and delivery nurse for the last 30 years...Haase had committed to Ohio State to play collegiately before being drafted by Cleveland in the seventh round of the 2011 draft and signing...Haase helped hone his swing as a kid in a 12-car pole barn in his backyard that his father converted into a batting cage. When Eric graduated from high school, they held the graduation party in the barn.
