Sigh of relief: MRI of deGrom's knee comes back clean

ARLINGTON -- Rangers ace underwent an MRI on his right knee on Tuesday morning after experiencing discomfort during his pregame warmup on Monday night ahead of a 2-1 win over the Mariners at Globe Life Field.

The results came back clean, with no structural issues -- a big relief for the team and fans alike.

Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said deGrom “felt a little something” in his right knee in the bullpen before the start, in which the right-hander allowed one run over five innings. Though it didn’t really affect deGrom during the game, the coaching staff didn’t think it was necessary to push him too hard. deGrom threw just 78 pitches in the win, 15 of which were used during Cal Raleigh's two at-bats.

“We were contemplating the sixth [inning],” deGrom said postgame. “I said, 'I can do it.' We decided to just make sure it's fine. … It's a little tender, but I think we'll be OK.”

deGrom will proceed with business as usual, with his scheduled between-starts bullpen session as planned. The Rangers do not expect him to miss his next start.
