For over a decade, I've been coming to Red Sox Fantasy Camp. My dad came with me for ten of those years, and the community of coaches, staff, and campers became his - and my - family in the years after my mother's passing. Playing baseball at the Red Sox fantasy camp was the last great chapter of his life and he was able to share it with his grandchildren as guests/fans/unofficial batboys on several of those years. When he passed this last December, the 2024 camp became a chance to connect with him and remember him. Everyone in the community was amazing, starting with a teary hug from one of the coaches in the lobby of the hotel during check-in, and ending with a video tribute to my dad made by his old teammates and coaches and shown at the ending banquet. The rituals of the camp were a chance to reconnect with his spirit, as they will be for me for years to come. I can't wait to share this experience with my children when they are old enough.
