Summary
The CASE (Careers As Sports Executives) Study Program is a free sports executive study program for high school students who are interested in sports – and perhaps careers in sports – but who would not otherwise have the opportunity to get the training, experience and tutelage to pursue entry-level jobs in the industry. The program aims to foster personal and professional development by offering training, experience and guidance for students interested in pursuing entry-level jobs in sports.
In 2018, Scott Harris, then Assistant General Manager for the Chicago Cubs, was among the founders of the CASE Study Program with a vision to provide high school students exposure to various careers in the sports industry. After launching in Chicago, the program gained momentum with its expansion during Harris’ time with the San Francisco Giants. Now, as the Tigers’ President of Baseball Operations, Harris has brought the program to Detroit, with support from the Detroit Tigers Foundation.
Since the Detroit Chapter launched in 2024, students from Detroit Public Schools Community District’s East English Village Preparatory Academy, Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School, Northwestern High School, Osborn High School, Southeastern High School, and Western International High School have participated in the program. Since 2024, over 120 students have completed the program through the Detroit Chapter of the CASE Study Program. These students have had the unique opportunity to participate in sessions facilitated by sports industry professionals from renowned organizations in Detroit with the Tigers, Red Wings, Lions, and Pistons, and in Chicago with the Cubs and Bulls.
The CASE Study Program, in partnership with the Detroit Tigers Foundation, has broadened the horizons of aspiring sports professionals and has equipped them with practical knowledge and networking opportunities essential for navigating the dynamic sports industry. As this initiative continues to flourish, it serves as a beacon, illuminating a path for the next generation of sports executives and leaders.
