Jake served as the inspiration for the Reds Viking-themed home run celebration during the 2023 season…every Reds home run hitter donned a horned helmet and large fur cape upon returning to the dugout, with teammates following behind him while mimicking rowing a boat…the idea originated from reliever Luis Cessa, who noticed that Jake’s long blonde hair and flowing beard resembled those of a Viking… Jake said he has taken DNA tests that indicate his ancestors were Vikings and Anglo-Saxons who traveled across the North Sea...Jake and his wife, Angelica, were married in October 2016…the couple has two children...Avery was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in late 2023, but was in full remission by early 2024 following countless checkups and treatments at children’s hospitals in Cincinnati, Phoenix and the family’s hometown of Miami… she rang the bell in March, indicating the completion of her cancer treatment...Jake’s family has stuck by his side during his Minor League journey and throughout his big league career…living by the motto “where he goes, we go,” the Fraleys were known to follow team buses in their SUV for minor-league road trips, with Jake and Angelica up front and their children in the backseat…his family has resided in several locations across the country and even abroad, spending three months in Australia when Jake played for the Perth Heat following the 2017 season…while Jake worked his way through the minors, the family implemented cost-saving measures such as purchasing a blow-up couch, watching movies and shows on an Amazon Fire Stick hooked up to a $35 projector, and using cardboard boxes as dressers...He has had several stints on the injured list throughout his career, many of which took a toll on his mental health during his years in Cincinnati…he sought help from Reds Director of Mental Skills Dr. Vanessa Shannon and Brian Cain, a mental performance coach who works with athletes…Jake’s work with the two helped him develop a mental strategy of living in the moment and focusing on things he can control to weather the storm during difficult times...A Maryland native, Jake first told his father, Marvin, that he wanted to be a baseball player while watching the Orioles on television at age five, a squad that featured Albert Belle, Cal Ripken Jr. and Mike Mussina.
