September 14, 1947

CF Harry Walker goes 4-for-6 in a doubleheader at Pittsburgh but injures his shoulder making a shoestring catch in the nightcap. Despite missing the final two weeks of the season, he still secures the National League batting crown with a .363 average.

September 14, 1984

LHP Steve Carlton wins his 235th game, 9-5 over Montreal at the Vet, to break the club record held by Robin Roberts, while 3B Mike Schmidt becomes the first Phillie to record seven 100-RBI seasons.

September 14, 2017

Rhys Hoskins hits his 18th home run, the most by any player in MLB history who made his season debut on Aug. 1 or later, smashing the previous record held by Hall of Famer Ted Williams (13 in 1953).

September 15, 1950

RHP Jim Konstanty pitches 10 innings of relief in a 19-inning, 8-7 victory over Cincinnati, the second game of a Friday doubleheader and the longest game in both innings and time (4 hours, 42 minutes) in Shibe Park history. Del Ennis, who finishes with 10 at-bats, tied for most ever by a Phillie in an extra-inning game, delivers a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 19th.

September 15, 1984

With his 18th triple in a 4-3 loss to Montreal at the Vet, 2B Juan Samuel breaks the modern franchise record that had been held by Elmer Flick and Sherry Magee. Samuel finishes the season with 19 triples, still a club rookie record.

September 15, 1996

After homering in his final at-bat the day before, C Benito Santiago hits a home run in his first three at-bats as the Phillies top the Cubs, 6-1, at Wrigley Field. Santiago joins Deron Johnson and Mike Schmidt as the only Phillies to homer in four consecutive at-bats.

September 15, 2025

J.T. Realmuto’s 10th-inning sacrifice fly gives the Phillies a 6-5 win at Los Angeles as they capture their second straight division crown and 13th in franchise history.

September 16, 1972

Phillies rookie third baseman Mike Schmidt slugs his first career home run off Montreal LHP Balor Moore at Veterans Stadium. He will finish his illustrious Hall of Fame career with 548 round-trippers over 18 seasons.

September 16, 1997

Curt Schilling strikes out nine in beating the Mets, 3-2, to become the first Phillies RHP with 300 strikeouts in a season and the 13th major league pitcher since 1900 to reach that plateau.

September 17, 1900

In the first game of a doubleheader at Philadelphia Park, Cincinnati SS Tommy Corcoran uncovers a wire in the third base coaches’ box that leads across the outfield to the Phillies clubhouse, where reserve catcher Morgan Murphy had been reading the opposing catcher’s signs and relaying them to the Phillies coach by using a buzzer hidden in the dirt.

September 17, 2000

SS Jimmy Rollins makes his major league debut and triples in his first at-bat as the Phillies edge the Marlins, 6-5. Rollins finishes the day going 2-for-4 with a walk, stolen base and two runs scored.

September 17, 2001

Baseball returns after the September 11th terrorist attacks and 3B Scott Rolen hits two home runs to lead the Phillies past Atlanta, 5-2. Rolen becomes just the fifth player to homer twice in a game off future Hall of Famer Greg Maddux.

September 17, 2011

With Roy Oswalt on the hill and 45,470 fans packed into Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies clinch their fifth consecutive National League East crown as they defeat the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-2. Jimmy Rollins goes 4-for-5, Raúl Ibañez smashes a grand slam and Chase Utley makes a spectacular bare-handed play to end the game.

September 17, 2022

Aaron Nola takes the mound for the 200th time in his career, making him just the seventh pitcher in franchise history to make his first 200 career starts for the Phillies, joining Cole Hamels, Larry Christenson, Chris Short, Robin Roberts, Curt Simmons and Grover Cleveland Alexander.

September 18, 1903

RHP Chick Fraser throws the Phillies’ first no-hitter of the century, 10-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Chicago. For loser RHP George “Peaches” Graham, it is his first and only big league pitching appearance.

September 18, 1963

LHP Chris Short wins the final game played at the Polo Grounds, a 5-1 complete game. New York Mets RF Jim Hickman hits the last home run before a meager crowd of 1,752. The former home of the New York Giants, the Polo Grounds served as the Mets’ ballpark for their first two years of existence while Shea Stadium was being built.

September 18, 1971

RHP Rick Wise sets a club record by retiring 32 consecutive batters in a 4-3, 12-inning complete-game win over Chicago at the Vet and also singles home the winning run. His line: 12 innings, 5 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 0 walks, 10 strikeouts.

September 18, 2020

In the second game of a doubleheader vs. Toronto, C Rafael Marchán hits his first major league home run, a three-run, game-tying shot. It is also his first professional home run, having never homered in 765 career at-bats in the minor leagues. At 21 years, 206 days old, he becomes the youngest Phillies catcher ever to homer in a game.

September 19, 1937

Wall of Fame LHP Chris Short is born in Milford, Del.

September 19, 1959

CF Richie Ashburn breaks Ed Delahanty’s club record for career hits (2,211) with a seventh-inning single off the first base bag in a 9-3 loss to the Milwaukee Braves at Connie Mack Stadium.

September 19, 2018

In his 192nd career game, 1B Rhys Hoskins slugs the 50th home run of his career, becoming the second-fastest Phillie to 50 homers behind Ryan Howard (182 games) and the seventh-fastest in MLB history.

September 20, 1987

Mike Schmidt hits his 487th home run as a third baseman in a 4-1 win at Montreal to break Eddie Mathews’ all-time major league record.

September 20, 1992

After snaring a low line drive hit by 3B Jeff King, 2B Mickey Morandini pulls off just the ninth unassisted triple play in baseball history – and first ever by a Phillie – during the sixth inning of a 3-2 loss at Pittsburgh.
