GO GREEN INITIATIVE

ZERO WASTE EFFORTS

Fans will see new trash bins throughout the ballpark for diverting organic and recycling waste, which is now mandatory under California’s state law SB 1383. “Landfill” bins will be converted to “Compost” bins, and signage will be posted next to each receptacle informing fans which bins to toss their trash in. The 2-bin system streamlines waste management by providing distinct receptables for only recyclables and food waste/food ware, effectively eliminating the need for landfill bins. All bins will then be sorted by the Petco Park janitorial team, Aramark, to separate out the non-compostable items. SB 1383 is the most significant waste reduction mandate to be adopted in California in the last 30 years. The mandate requires the state to reduce organic waste (such as food waste, green waste and paper products) disposal by 75% in 2025.

Petco Park Compost Examples:

  • Used and/or Coated Paper Cups, Plates, Napkins, and Take-out Boxes/Containers
  • Food Scraps, such as fruits and vegetables, leftovers, meat and seafood
  • Paper Coffee Cups
  • Pizza Boxes
  • Bags and Plastics Labeled “Compostable” Only

Petco Park Recyclable Examples:

  • Aluminum Cans
  • Plastic Bottles
  • Coffee Cup Lids
  • Plastic Beverage Cups

Additionally, Petco Park diverts the following from the landfill:

  • Commingled recyclables
  • Cardboard
  • Construction debris
  • Green waste (grass clippings from the playing field)
  • Wood pallets
  • Cooking oil
  • Light bulbs / ballasts / batteries
  • eWaste (computers/electronics)
  • Uniform recycling
