For a few special days during the cold Michigan winter, the team, along with coaches, broadcasters and front office staff, hit the road for the Winter Caravan to visit fans across the state of Michigan. Along the many stops, players can be found reading to children, spending time with kids in the hospital, and visiting local firehouses and police stations. Each year, the Tigers Winter Caravan makes nearly 40 stops over two days, touching the lives of thousands of Tigers fans.
Tigers Players and Wives in the Community
The Detroit Tigers players and their wives are pleased to give back to the community through various volunteer opportunities, community visits and fundraisers. Through these community events, the Tigers players and wives hope to encourage Tigers fans to step up to the plate and volunteer in the community.
Winter Caravan Highlights
VA Hospital
Tigers players visit with veterans at the John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Detroit. Players are challenged by veterans in a Wii Baseball Home Run Derby. Each patient receives an autographed Tigers calendar signed by the visiting players and broadcasters.
Children's Hospital
Throughout the year, Tigers players along with their wives made a series of visits at the local Children's Hospital. During their visits, players and the wives spent time with youth patients doing arts and crafts and made sure each child left with some Tigers goodies.
Front Office Volunteering
Throughout the season, the front office employees are committed to serving in the community. Volunteers can be seen supporting a variety of different organizations around metro Detroit including Belle Isle Conservatory, Forgotten Harvest, Carver STEM Academy and the Detroit VA Medical Center.
